Our guest teacher for this month, Bhavna Yadav, is a yoga teacher residing and teaching in Gurgaon. She did the Yoga Teachers’ Training Course in 2014 from Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Dhanwantari Ashram in Neyyar Dam where she stayed for over two years, teaching yoga asana, philosophy and meditation classes.
She completed the Advanced Teachers’ Training Course in 2017 from the Sivananda Ashram in Madurai. She has been studying Vedanta philosophy for over three years and has a deep interest in exploring the wisdom of the scriptures.
During the workshop titled “Yoga shows the way”, she covered the five points of yoga formulated by Swami Vishnudevananda. These five points help bring the yoga philosophy and practice in day-to-day life in a very systematic manner.
The next session focussed on Bhakti Yoga which included the concept of Bhakti, types of Bhaktas, modes of Bhakti and the methods of practicing Bhakti Yoga. The session included chanting of bhajans where everyone chanted to their heart’s content and concluded with offering and sharing of prasad.
The third session in the series was on the topic of Eight limbs of yoga from the Raja Yoga Sutras, expounded by Patanajali Maharshi. The participants learnt about the systematic approach of mind control as explained in the Sutras and how to practice this bit by bit everyday in order to attain the highest goal of yoga and go have a better quality of life.
